Monster of the Week, Part 2

Stopping the Next Wave of Sacrifices

At the dolmen, Randal King and Marcus Legant freed all the captives and jammed them into the vehicle that they used to get there. Randal and Marcus’ plan is to get the captives out of Forest Town as soon as possible. The closest hospital is next to Miskantoic University, so they would have to drive some distance away from Forest Town.

Meanwhile, Bazel Pedan noticed that, at the middle of the night, Chrissy Wade got out of her family estate and drove off. Bazel focused his camera to figure out where Chrissy was going – she went into the Last Sector and went into a half-constructed research lab, where some screaming and arguing took place. She came out, along with some security guards and the rest of the captives (all the other abductees as well as Dr. Grant Emerson’s friendlies). Then she plans on driving these captives to the dolmen.

Bazel Pedan calls Randal King and Marcus Legant, asking them to intercept Chrissy Wade before she could attempt a second human sacrifice. Randal points out that with the UFO still in existence, that Bazel may very well be vulnerable. Bazel said he’ll be fine – he can deal with the aliens or whatever up close.

Randal and Marcus decide to divert heir car to intercept Chrissy Wade, and Marcus Legant shoot out the tires of Chrissy Wade’s vehicles. Both vehicles stop at a strip mall, where Chrissy Wade and two guards confront Randal King and Marcus Legant.

Randal King lied to Chrissy Wade. Randal told her that he had a dream from Colonel Satchel Wade stating that there would be no more human sacrifices.

Chrissy Wade believed Randal King, and celebrated.

Interrogating Chrissy Wade

Randal King asked what’s going on. This confused Chrissy Wade – wouldn’t Colonel Satchel Wade tell Randal King? Randal King explained that the dream came on short notice and they had to hurry to try to stop the violence.

Chrissy Wade explained that Satchel Wade is opposed to a cult called the Ginseng Knife and is trying to fight a deity called Angka (a gestalt consciousness). He was able to stop Ginseng Knife from summoning Angka, but only by summoning Angka himself and then directing B52 bombers to blow the entity up.

The problem is that even though Angka was destroyed, it was not actually killed. It was sent into another dimension. Satchel Wade wants to destroy Angka permanently, so he has told his followers to conduct human sacrifices, which he can use as weapons against the deity.

Luckily, if Randal King says he doesn’t need any more human sacrifices, then the war must have been won.

Chrissy Wade freed the captives under her control. Randal King instructed Dr. Grant Emerson (the least wounded of the captives) to drive everyone out of Forest Town. Meanwhile, Randal King would escort Chrissy Wade and her two guards to the motel’s parking lot, so that he, Bazel Pedan, and Marcus Legant can more easily talk about what’s going on.

Learning about SCADR

Randal King asked if the police is involved. Chrissy Wade said they were involved, but just a few minutes ago, the alliance broke down. At this point, Officer Lance Brady and Bazza Karpos shows up in their own car. Bazza Karpos points his gun at Chrissy Wade.

Chrissy Wade states that these people work for her, and that the human sacrifices are no longer necessary. Bazza Karpos asked Chrissy Wade if the party are actually Chrissy Wade’s robots. Chrissy refuses to answer the question, stating merely that they were friends of hers. Randal King is confused, but could not get an answer from either side.

Marcus Legant knocks the gun of Karpos’ hands, disarming him and rendering him a non-threat. Randal King calms the situation down, and tries to ask Bazza Karpos what’s going on.

Bazza Karpos states that he works for an American project (the “Special Committee for Air Defense Research” – SCADR) dedicated to testing out mundane weapons, like microwave beams. He’s also in charge of covering up these field-tests up by pretending that they’re supernatural phenomena…that way, nobody would investigate further. Vingroup is currently researching flying cars. And Chrissy Wade is responsible for doing human sacrifices. Therefore, they all saw the need to cooperate – Vingroup instructs Miskantoic University on how to build flying cars, Chrissy Wade gather human sacrifices, and Bazza field-test microwave beams at the place where human sacrifices take place. Everyone wins.

This alliance broke down because, after Randal King interrupted the human sacrifices, Chrissy Wade panicked, and decided to move all the captives out of the half-constructed research laboratory, in preparation for a mass human sacrifice that doesn’t require the use of a flying car. This led to the screaming and arguing that Bazel Pedan noticed in the middle of the night – as the SCADR wants to continue the experiments, and Chrissy Wade unilaterally chose to end the experiments in favor of just executing people.

Karpos also admits that the SCDAR has some ties to Majestic-12, though they’re fairly limited. Officer Lance Brady is mainly Bazza’s point of contact with Majestic.

The party savagely deconstructs this plot. First, Randal King asks Chrissy Wade why she needs to do human sacrifices instead of sacrificing animals. Chrissy asks if Randal has seen any animals here. Bazel Pedan points out that they could simply import animals from outside Forest Town, and kill sheep and pigs. Chrissy Wade just shrugs – she followed Colonel Satchel Wade’s plan, and it obviously worked.

Randal King states that he wants to talk privately to Officer Lance Brady and Bazza Karpos, so Chrissy Wade and her guards agree to go inside the motel, presumably to celebrate the completion of their mission.

After they did so, Randal King tells Karpos that they’re no more need to test microwave poisoning – it’s pretty obvious that the beam works, and that it can kill people. Bazel Pedan points out that the beam itself wasn’t set to murder people, but to inflict lasting harm on them.

Randal King asked why in the world did Bazza Karpos not do anything to stop the human sacrifices, as soon as he was aware of them. Karpos respond that he couldn’t because it’s possible Chrissy Wade is right – that these sacrifices are necessary to fight against Angka. Bazel Pedan state that it’s also equally likely that Chrissy Wade is wrong. Karpos state that, regardless, Randal King claimed that Colonel Satchel Wade has “won”. Randal King responded that he was merely uttering BS, which Karpos understood.

Randal King also state that covering up a mundane phenomena by claiming that it’s supernatural is also a pretty dumb idea, as that’s the only reason the party came here in the first place. Karpos explained that most people are scared of supernatural stuff, so it’s usually easier to scare people off that way.

Randal King also muses how ridiculous the situation is – when Vingroup and the Special Committee found out about the human sacrifices, instead of stopping it, they simply thought how to use them to their advantage. “Much better to test on humans than on animals,” Bazel Pedan mocks.

Randal King, Bazel Pedan, and Marcus Legant conclude that it’s not enough to let these people go unharmed – Delta Green’s goal is to prevent supernatural phenomena like human sacrifices, and leaving these people alone sounds like a bad idea.

Randal King believe that Chrissy Wade, Bazza Karpos, and Officer Lance Brady are all horrible people who deserve what’s coming to them. Bazel Pedan agrees, but is opposed to murdering these people. He instead wants to have them processed through the legal system. Bazel Pedan despairs on whether it is actually possible to do so, due to their government connections.

Randal King ask Bazza Karpos to take the party over to the half-constructed research laboratory in the Last Sector. Karpos does so, in a good-faith effort to demonstrate that SCADR is not a threat to them and should be trusted. During the trip, Bazza Karpos reveals his SCADR codename – Agent Hammer.

Half-Constructed Research Laboratory

When they make it to the lab, Randal King stuffs Officer Lance Brady, the lackey of the operation, inside of the trunk of the car. They tie him up, to make sure he doesn’t escape. Then Randal King, Bazel Pedan, and Marcus Legant followed Bazza Karpos into the research laboratory.

Bazza Karpos then takes the party over to a hanger bay where a team of engineers work on rebuilding the flying car. Randal King asks Bazza Karpos to get all documents regarding the experiments – Karpos sends an engineer to retrieve said documents.

While an engineer leaves to get the documents, Randal King quietly talks to Bazel Pedan about whether they should murder the research team here. They note that there’s no plans to sacrifice anyone right now. But Randal King states that punishment is necessary: “Someone needs to be destroyed, someone needs to get a black eye. There’s a pathos element to this, but I feel it is required.” Bazel Pedan agreed, and state that when he files the report, he’ll write, “We did it out of spite” and will bold the words “F them”.

The party hatch a plan to handcuff everyone in the building and then burn the building down, hopefully killing everyone inside.

Once the documents were retrieved, Randal King looked through the documents. He sees that the flying car is referred to as a VTOL in official documents, and he see pictures of various corspes that were experimented upon by scientists.

One of those photos contain corpses of Randal King, Bazel Pedan, and Marcus Legant.

Randal King shows Bazza Karpos the photo and asked him what’s going. Karpos said he’s also confused too, which is why he asked them if they were Chrissy Wade’s robots. At this point, Bazel Pedan waves a gun and demands everyone to enter into a closet.

At this point, everyone realizes what’s about to happen. Bazza Karpos and two engineers turn into Protomatter blobs and attacks Marcus Legant, trying to eat him. Marcus Legant fired his shotgun at the blobs, destroying them and turning them into goo. Randal King conclude that this means that Bazza Karpos and the two engineers were also robots (and that the dolmen’s cult leader – the one that tried to eat Marcus Legant and turned into goo – was also a robot as well).

Meanwhile, all the other engineers try to dart out of the hanger bay, but they were blocked from exiting and were quickly intimidated.

Randal King demands the engineers to explain what’s going on. The engineers smile, freaking out Marcus Legant and Bazel Pedan. The engineers state that they belong to the Ginseng Knife, and that the robots work for them.

According to these engineers, the Ginseng Knife had built a machine that enables time travel. However, the machine malfunctioned in the 2020s, causing the world to end. Ginseng Knife seeks to stop this disaster from taking place in the future by summoning Angka, a gestalt consciousness, in the past. Randal King is dubious about this plan and wonder why couldn’t they just destroy the time machine if it was malfunctioning. Ginseng Knife refuses to contemplate that plan – the machine is too useful for them.

Randal King ask the engineers how do they know if they’re not robots. The engineers reveal the existence of a test kit that they use. It contains a clear, colorless liquid that stains purple when in contact with Protomatter. The stain itself lasts two to three minutes and is harmless. The liquid itself smells like rotten flesh and “is toxic to human flesh with prolonged contact”.

Randal King applies the test kit to the engineers and find they’re all humans. He muses about the possibility of shoving all the engineers into a closet and then throwing the liquid inside.

Bazel Pedan decides to order the engineers into the closet anyway, and then blocks the closet door with furniture. He hijacks the VTOL, though he is upset to learn that the VTOL could only hold one person. He coats the lab with gas and aluminum and then use the microwave beam on the aluminum, setting the building ablaze. Bazel then flies away with the VTOL.

The process for destroying the building took longer than Bazel expected, which meant that while the engineers could not , they got

Meanwhile, Randal King and Marcus Legant decide to take the car, driving off with Officer Lance Brady still in the trunk of the car.

The process for destroying the building took longer than Bazel Pedan expected. While the engineers could not escape, one of them had a cellphone and used it to call someone, letting them know what happened. This suggest that the party’s cover was blown.

Aftermath

Randal King takes Marcus Legant to a hospital, allowing him to recuperate after the injuries he faced when dealing with the Protomatter blobs/robots. It will take him about one week for him to recover.

Officer Lance Brady is released from the trunk of the car and turned over to Delta Green for interrogation and processing.

Bazel Pedan asks Delta Green for funding and assistance in “upgrading” the VTOL – adding more seating capacity, for instance. Delta Green refuses, and instead demanded Bazel Pedan to turn over the VTOL for further research. Bazel Pedan agreed. He uses his connections though to try to requisition a different vehicle for the party to use.

Randal King, Marcus Legant, and Bazel Pedan all agreed to test themselves using the test kit given to them by the Ginseng Knife. The test kit revealed them all to stain purple, suggesting that they are all indeed robots.

Randal King wants to gain more information about these robots – he takes samples of his hair and skin and sends them over to one of his Internet fans. He claims that these samples is from a Protomatter robot (not disclosing that he’s the Protomatter robot in question), and he wants to learn more about them.

The fan replies back that each sample reveals a matrix of alien cells that expertly imitate human tissue. This matrix receives radio transmissions, which allows someone to give orders. The bodies act autonomously when no radio transmissions are given. Randal King is a little disappointed at the outcome – if the bodies need continual radio transmissions in order to function, this could suggest that the “real” Randal King, Marcus Legant, and Bazel Pedan may simply be in a coma, and be commanding their robotic bodies elsewhere.

The fan also points out that if something were to happen to the radio transmitter, then this would harm the Protomatter robot themselves – sorta like a self-destruct sequence. At this point, Randal King, Marcus Legant, and Bazel Pedant felt sick, and needed to go to the hospital to recover.

While bedridden, Randal King found out via the news that 5000 people, all connected to the US Air Force, mysteriously collapsed into Protomatter goo. This suggest that perhaps SCADR may not actually be a real project, but just a cover for human sacrifices by the Ginseng Knife.

Randal King found it weird that everyone did what they told them to do. It sounded too simple…too easy. He also notes that he doesn’t even know if the “real” Randal King, Marcus Legant, and Bazel Pedant are dead or not – pictures exist of their corpses, but that could be pictures from the future…or possibly pictures of machines who are playing dead. It’s possible that there is no “real” Randal King, Marcus Legant, and Bazel Pedant at all. It’s certainly concerning. More research is required.

For now, Randal King decides to learn how to exploit his supernatural nature, refining his propaganda abilities and learning how to conduct Mental Domination on mundane humans – being able to give them orders that they will obey without question.
